Tradition Questions

This is our tubing video from last year. I still laugh so hard at it. Maybe you don't find it funny, but I do.
Just a little questionairre. I'm hoping everyone will leave a comment of a Christmas Tradition, or idea for one. Maybe even a homemade gift idea for kids to make. We are starting some new traditions this year. We do 1 activity a day until Christmas, read a story and sing a song at night, and of course it has been Christmas Music 24/7. We are having a "Back to Basics" Christmas this year. Very excited about it. We are trying to get away from the huge Christmases and get back to "The Reason For the Season". Wade is even on board. He sat this morning and listened to Christmas music for about 15 minutes, and he doesn't even complain about it in the car. What a good sport. Christmas is such a fun season, even if there is no snow yet. I would love everyones help, so leave those comments even if they are 3 or 4.

I'm no good at this sort of thing, so I'll be stealing from your comments. The only thing I do consistently from year to year is eat all the good stuff.
I always get my Lion House Christmas recipes book out and make English toffee, christmas caramels, popcorn balls, lollipops, and peanut brittle. I give this out to the neighbors and people I work with
We started our own traditions when we moved to georgia because we could no longer partake of our parents tradition because there so far away. One of the new traditions is we have the Missionaries over for christmas breakfest and have a stocking ready for them..When it was the sister serving in this area they made us breakfest but now we just make for the elders.. GOOD LUCK :)AND MERRY CHRISTMAS

That video is pretty darn funny! AND, I love what you are doing for Christmas. Everyone needs to do it. We have a lot of traditions. I don't really know what you are looking for. We always act out the nativity on Christmas Eve - the kids love it. Like wear bath towels and ties and all. We always make certain desserts - pumpkin roll, fudge, etc. You know, the whole shabang. Last year, we had a tag and if it ended on your door, you had to do something nice for someone else and put it on their door. We just did that in our household. AND, we would write what they did on the back of it. We liked it. One year we wrote what we would give Jesus that year and put it away in the Christmas stuff and read it the year after. Kinda fun! Hmm...I can't think. We always do a big Christmas Eve dinner. AND, as kids we always slept together somewhere....like in the same room. That was so fun - I have so many memories of that. AND, we always wake up together, have prayer before we go in and see what santa brings and go in together - youngest to oldest. Yea, I am getting excited just typing this. AND, we always open presents one at a time, not just everyone rip things to shreds. It just means more. I can't wait to read what everyone else does too.
Amy, you are so good. Looks like you started your own new tradition. I love everyone else' ideas. This year I am making my own "Gourmet Cocoa" mix. I give that away with some mimi
marshmallows.
I will email the recipe.
P.S LOVED the video
Dave Here. That is a classic of Wade. I am sure he was like "I'm a big tough guy and I can do this without a coat".
I remember having a lot of fun up there as a kid but freezing to death along the way.
So fun! We have an advent calendar that I just made that we put an ornament on the tree for everyday until Christmas. Then we do the Merry "Kiss"mas advent too where they cut off Hershey's Kisses everyday until Christmas. I have a service project in mind that I am presenting to the family tonight and so hopefully that will help us get more in tune with the Christmas Spirit... here's hoping.
Our little Family (of 7! hehehe) draws names and we have to make a gift for our person. We've had pj's, a framed magnet board, a shelf, fleece scarf/hat, blankets, baby doll cradles or blankets, a watercolor painting, an apron, a bike ramp/jump etc. This is fun and challenge for mom who really has to come up with the ideas but it relly ensures that we are spending time together! We also decided to focus our treat/goodie drops to be targeted as missionary opportunities or to all the people on our street-rather than our church friends withwhom we always are in contact with. I also have a 12 Days that you give with a Nativity Scene. The Angel or shepherd teach us how to get back to the reason for the season...I could e-mail it or Lita your sister has it already...Allisa (thesixnathans@msn.com)
Several years ago we started the "Christmas Tree Sleep-under"- The evening of the day we set up the Christmas tree and all the fun Christmas stuff around the house The kids get their pillows and blankets and sleep under (next to, Mom and Dad on the couch) the lit Tree. With our favorite Christmas music, hot chocolate and the first Christmas treats of the season in hand we spend the evening talking of past Christmas memories, wish lists and the like. The kids also love to play "I Spy" with the fun ornaments on our tree. The kids are growing to love this tradition. We also started the German "Christmas Pickle" Tradition last year. We picked up the Green Glass Pickle ornament at the German house in Epcot but they also can be found in any specialty Christmas store. The tradition is that the Pickle is hidden in the tree the night of Christmas Eve, The first child to find the pickle in the morning gets to open the first gift of Christmas. Last year Brenner was the lucky Pickle finder, and I fear that this year their may be a knock down fight when the pickle is spotted, and who knows, Mia may come out on top! There are so many fun Christmas Traditions, they are what make Christmas so magical. But whatever the tradition- Remember a tradition is only a tradition if it is done consistently, that is the key! Great Idea to ask!
LOL have we learned about warmth yet? I can't believe Wade has no coat. Please Brett do not do what your dad does.
I still laugh so hard at that video. I concure with Natalie, Brett just say NO!!!
